*EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of psychotherapy that helps individuals process and heal from emotional distress caused by disturbing or traumatic life experiences. Research consistently shows that EMDR can help people experience meaningful relief in a shorter time frame than traditional talk therapy alone.
While it’s often believed that deep emotional pain takes years to heal, EMDR demonstrates that the brain has a natural ability to recover from psychological trauma—much like the body heals from physical injury. When you cut your hand, the body works to repair itself. If the wound is repeatedly irritated or blocked, healing is delayed. Once the obstruction is removed, the healing process continues.
The same principle applies to emotional wounds. The brain’s information-processing system is naturally oriented toward balance and well-being. When a distressing event overwhelms this system, the memory can become “stuck,” leading to ongoing emotional pain. EMDR helps remove these blocks so the brain can resume its natural healing process.
Through structured protocols and specialized techniques, EMDR-trained clinicians guide clients in activating these innate healing mechanisms, allowing distressing experiences to be processed in a safe and effective way.

*Brainspotting is a gentle yet powerful therapy that helps people process and release emotional pain, trauma, and stress that may be stored in the body and nervous system. It works by identifying specific points of focus that help the brain access and heal experiences that are often difficult to reach through talking alone. Sessions are often paired with calming bilateral sound, which can support deeper focus and regulation during the process.
At the heart of Brainspotting is the therapeutic relationship. Healing happens in a safe, supportive space where you feel seen, heard, and understood. The therapist’s presence and attunement are essential, and Brainspotting simply serves as a tool within that trusted connection.
This approach helps access deeper parts of the brain that influence emotional and physical responses—especially those connected to trauma and stress. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT is a short-term, problem-focused form of behavioral treatment that helps people see the difference between beliefs, thoughts, and feelings, and free them from unhelpful patterns of behavior.
CBT is grounded in the belief that it is a person’s perception of events – rather than the events themselves – that determines how he or she will feel and act in response.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is much more than sitting and talking about whatever comes to mind during a session. Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, or MBCT, is designed for people who suffer from repeated bouts of depression or chronic unhappiness. It combines the ideas of cognitive therapy with meditative practices and attitudes based on the cultivation of mindfulness.
Recent research has shown that people who have been clinically depressed three or more times in their life find that learning mindfulness-based skills help to considerably reduce their chances of depression returning.

Play therapy refers to a large number of treatment methods, all applying the therapeutic benefits of play. Play therapy helps children to address and resolve their own problems and builds on the natural way that children learn about themselves and their relationships in the world around them.
APT defines play therapy as the “systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained play therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development.”

Most people will experience trauma in their lifetime whether it’s a car accident, abuse or neglect, the sudden death of a loved one, a violent criminal act, exposure to the violence of war, or a natural disaster.
